Meiji Jingu Shrine 明治神宮

Meiji Jingu (or Meiji Shrine) lies within a large forested area (including Yoyogi Park) within the densely built-up city. Dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort, the lush, spacious grounds offer a number of great walking paths through a tranquil forest - perfect for a relaxing stroll. Meiji Jingu’s traditional buildings offer a peek into the world of the Shinto religion, where visitors can make offerings, buy charms for good luck, and send wishes to the gods. One of Japan’s most popular shrines, it welcomes visitors in the hundreds through it’s massive torii (pronounced torey-ee) gates every day, but sees millions for New Year’s blessings. At any time during the rest of the year, Shinto weddings can be seen here on a regular basis – a delightful sight for visitors from afar.

From Meiji Dori, walk just 5-10 minutes to Harajuku and Omotesando’s busiest streets (Takeshita Street, Meiji Dori Avenue and Omotesando Dori Avenue). Takeshita Dori Street is opposite the Takeshita Dori Exit of Harajuku Station, which faces Meiji Dori. To get to Omotesando, walk along Meiji Dori Avenue as far the crossroads, then turn left into Omotesando Dori Avenue.

Harajuku 原宿/Omotesando 表参道

Just a short walk down the street from Meiji Jingu Shrine is colorful Harajuku – the center of fashion, and youthful and coolness in Tokyo. Start with Takeshita Dori - a narrow pedestrian-only street packed with fashionable people and lined with eclectic boutiques and cafes.

Also, explore the wide tree-lined streets of Omotesando, one of Tokyo’s best upscale shopping districts. Some of the luxury shops that can be found are: Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton and TOD’s.
